Soulful Productivity

Soulful productivity is a concept developed by Dr. Louise Schriewer, who distinguishes it from toxic productivity.

Toxic productivity is when you take action

  • on the wrong thing,

  • for the wrong reason, or

  • in the wrong way.

Soulful productivity is when you do

  • the right thing,

  • for the right reason, and

  • in the right way.

Toxic productivity takes energy. Soulful productivity gives you energy.

The 3 aspects of our experience

Toxic productivity only sees you as a human doing. Because it misses the wider reality, it doesn’t allow for any variance in output. It expects the same output day by day, as if you were a machine (while ignoring that even machines need maintenance and break sometimes).

In contrast, the concept of soulful productivity recognizes that you’re a human doing and a human being. Both parts of your total reality influence each other. If you haven’t slept well (being), it can impact your performance at work (doing). And if you work too hard (doing), it might make it harder for you to feel at peace (being).

Soulful productivity includes honoring these 3 important aspects of our total reality:

  • Being (inner),

  • Doing (outer), and

  • Belonging (interpersonal).

It's about recognizing that we are human beings, human doings, and human belongings.
